Well, we all are sometimes a little hesitant and perplexed whenever we start with something new. I am here to help you out with your baking journey.
I am sure and can say with first hand experience that you must be having these questions... OMG! what tools I would need?
Where would I find them?
Will I actually use the one I'll buy. Don't you worry, I will guide you through this and help you discover your bakery skills. Here's a list of top 10 baking tools you would require as a beginner. You can always buy all these tools from your nearby market but seeing current COVID-19 situations and to make your life easier, I have also added links from where you can buy all the enlisted tools. And yes I have chosen the best quality and budget-friendly options.
Please feel free to connect with me through Instagram DM or E-mail for any queries.
1. An Oven
Well, this one goes with saying, you WOULD need an oven to bake. Although many people would now say that it's not necessary, you can bake on cooktops also. But trust me, an oven WILL make your life easier. For starters, it is much easier to setup and operate than DIYing an entire system of Cooktop baking and it gives you easy temperature control, you can try much more complex recipes without failing.
Moreover, its not an EXPENSE its an INVESTMENT. because once you'll start baking, you would never NOT WANT TO DO IT.
Here are some links to excellent oven choices for beginners.
For baking beginners, this small and space saving Bajaj 16 ltr. oven from Amazon.
For baking lovers, this larger Bajaj 29 ltr. oven from Amazon.
2. Baking Trays, moulds and tins.
Whatever you're starting with, whether cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, you WOULD need moulds, trays or tins.
Ovens and OTG come with baking trays and several other attachments but you would need to buy cake tins and moulds separately.
Some people prefer buying those silicon and flexi moulds which easy to demould and all but personally I really like working with those metal ones either aluminum or those coated non stick ones because cakes baked in larger silicon baking molds are at a higher risk of cracking in the malleable molds than they would in metal pans.
This 6-Piece Non-stick Bakeware Set from amazon contains most of the essential bakeware.
Separately you can buy these round cake tins which come in a combo of three different sizes.
3. Measuring cups and a weighing scale.
Baking is science, you need precise measurement of all the ingredients to whip up the perfect batch of those cupcakes.
These affordable tools come in handy:
These plastic measuring spoons which i guess every beginner once had/still has in their life.
This weighing scale which I still have and use it.
4. A sieve and a rolling pin.
Every baker swears by this tip that you must always ALWAYS sieve your flour before baking anything.
whether you're working with cake fondant or cookie/ bread dough, you would require a rolling pin. 'Desi belan' works just fine but incase you want to buy a new one. here's my suggestion.
5. Pastry brush, a silicon spatula and Whisks
A silicon spatula is needed to scrape off that batter from bowls, a brush to shine up your baked goodies and grease your pans and whisks to mix all the 'love' and of course the ingredients of the recipe together.
You can also buy an electric hand mixer to make your work easier.
6. Mixing bowls
You can choose between glass or stainless steel bowls for this purpose but I would not suggest using plastic ones. Stainless steel bowls are much more affordable and handy than glass bowls.
Here's the links to my choice of bowls
7. Oven mitts
I know I know it looks like its not THAT necessary, but trust me, you would feel the need for it once you start putting moulds and tins in your oven.
Also, they come in so many cute and quirky prints and designs.
8. Baking paper, cupcake liners, cake boards
DO these actually need an explanation of why you need them?
C'mon, do you really need a reason to buy these pretty assorted - 300 cupcake liners?
9. Piping bags and nozzles
Baking a Cake, baking cupcakes? setting up mousse? you WOULD need a piping bag to perfectly squeeze out the icing.
Create amazing cakes and cupcakes using different nozzles.
10. Knives and offset spatula
This set of pallet knife, offset spatula will come handy with all your cakes and icings.
Want to make those perfectly layered cakes, this serrated knife is a must have for those wanting to master cake decoration.
